Love the earth and sun and the animals, despise riches, give alms to everyone that asks, stand up for the stupid and crazy, devote your income and labor to others, hate tyrants, argue not concerning God, have patience and indulgence toward the people, take off your hat to nothing known or unknown, or to any man or number of men-go freely with powerful uneducated persons, and with the young, and with the mothers or families-re-examine all you have been told in school or church or in any book, and dismiss whatever insults your own soul; and your very flesh shall be a great poem, and have the richest fluency, not only in its words, but in the silent lines of its lips and face, and between the lashes of your eyes, and in every motion and joint of your body.
-Walt Whitman

Pippin: I never thought it would end this way.

Gandalf: End? This is not the end. Death is just another path, one that we all must take.

Pippin: I don't want to be in a battle, but waiting on the edge of one you can't escape is even worse.

Gandalf: Death is just another path, one that we all must take... The grey rain curtain of this world rolls back and all turns to silver glass... and then you see it...

Pippin: What, Gandalf? See what?

Gandalf: White shores...And beyond... A far green country under a swift sunrise.

Pippin: Well, that isn't so bad.

Gandalf: No... No, it isn't.
If you didn't know, I'm a die hard fan of LOTR. This is my favorite scene in the last movie.

If ever this free people--if this government itself is ever utterly demoralized, it will come from this incessant human wriggle and struggle for office, which is but a way to live without work.

I've never head that Lincoln quote before, but it certainly seems true these days.

Here's a few Douglas Adams quotes. If you haven't read the Hitchhiker's series, I suggest you do. If you like British humour and science fiction, then you'll love Douglas Adams. Very Happy

The ships hung in the sky in much the same way that bricks don't.

Space is big. You just won't believe how vastly, hugely, mind- bogglingly big it is. I mean, you may think it's a long way down the road to the chemist's, but that's just peanuts to space.

I love deadlines. I like the whooshing sound they make as they fly by.

In those days spirits were brave, the stakes were high, men were real men, women were real women and small furry creatures from Alpha Centauri were real small furry creatures from Alpha Centauri.

I loved that book! I also loved the 80s INFOCOM text-adventure game based on the book.

“We are friends and I do like to pass the day with you in serious and inconsequential chatter. Some of my faves:

It's never too late to have a happy childhood. ~Berke Breathed

A small group of thoughtful people could change the world. Indeed, it's the only thing that ever has. ~Margaret Mead

Be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle. ~Some Greek philosopher

Hold on to what is good even if it is a handful of earth.
Hold on to what you believe even if it is a tree which stands by itself.
Hold on to what you must do even if it is a long way from here.
Hold on to life even when it is easier letting go.
Hold on to my hand even when I have gone away from you.
~Pueblo Blessing ~

Ha, I like that one. I love quotes. Here are a couple I like -

"Outside of a dog, a book is man's best friend. Inside of a dog, it's too dark to read." - Groucho

"I used to be indecisive, now I’m not so sure."
