This article posted today on our Facebook page has some interesting points on why perfectionism is so pervasive in our society and the cost we pay trying to embrace the expectations.

When I was a Practicing Alcoholic, I spent tons and tons of personal energy on meeting social/cultural expectations.

Isn't it wonderful you finally got past all of that?

Now that you mention it, yes, by golly, it IS quite nice.

Of course I'm still healing from a dysfunctional family upbringing, but those remnants are like a tip of an iceberg, compared to the iceberg that was the alcoholic.

The important thing is you are healing and as you do, life just gets better. I'm glad you are.

Thanks for sharing. Perfectionism is a nasty self-sabotager. It keeps you from enjoying the journey of something and 'learning' from the mishaps, or slipups etc. It can even give you such high expectations with something it becomes impossible to fulfill and just makes you miserable and fearful. It's certainly something habitual I grapple with with my artwork. I have to catch myself in the act and consciously correct it when i do.

Much respect to RBM to moving past the issue briefly touched upon above Smile big thumbs up

You're welcome. Perfectionism even prevents people from truly trying new things for fearing to make mistakes. It is in the trying that we learn, and attain greatness. Without failure greatness can't be achieved.

By not fearing failure, I am free to try many new things and along the way I have made lots of great discoveries, had wonderful adventures and experiences and I have lots of stories to tell. Including some spectacular and some really hilarious failures. whee!

By embracing my imperfect self, I can easily love who I am and thus am free to love others freely as well. I don't think less of myself for each time I am less than perfect.
