default Voting on the constitutional amendment on commercialism

Post by melodiccolor on Fri Jul 25, 2008 8:00 pm

On this forum, we encourage people to discuss things that excite them. This may include a product or service that they have used or enjoyed and think may be beneficial to others. On the other hand, posts which are attempts at sales (except links to original works from established members), or hook people into pyramid schemes, or something that the administrators and moderators or members think is "more than I would tolerate from my friends" stand in danger of being deleted, or locked. We do not view this forum as a place to be beset by rank commercialism or advertising. Be forewarned; when the rest of us have had enough, we will let people know, then act.

This sounds so threatening Mel. I openly vote "no".

Talk to Reb, he wrote it. Just curious, why didn't you say something during the comment phase, when this was open for revision? You are of course free to vote as you choose.

Mel, I get busy sometimes and I don't get a chance to make it to all the threads. Sometimes I just got to pick it up where I can, ya know?

I understand about being busy, believe me. But you were the first one to comment on the amendment supporting it when it was up for comment. confused

Sounds like things are really chaotic for you right now in rl.

I wasn't accusing, but trying to understand. I tried to give everyone enough opportunity to participate in the process of this amendment, the constitution itself, picking names and then after it's done, some always protest after the fact. It's puzzling.

That explains a lot. It does sound pretty rough. Do you have anyone that can help, to give you some relief?

Merlin, if you don't mind, it might be helpful if you started a thread on this over in Comfy Chair. It's a private forum and you might be surprised at the help and support you get from here. (There's that word; from, lol.)

I know when you have to be strong for others it can be really difficult to open up. But occasional relief from a local preacher is not enough; not for anyone under such circumstances.

Merlin,

i wasn't intending for the wording to sound threatening, only a clear warning...abuse of forum privileges won't be tolerated for any great time. here's a board i go on on yahoo-their 'intro'-pretty clear-note some of the other features, like 'topic drift' lol!:

Welcome to the DNA-NEWBIE list brought to you by the International Society of Genetic Genealogy (ISOGG)!

ISOGG's mission is to further the education and promotion of Genetic Genealogy. To assist with meeting this goal, we've decided to provide a public mailing list for those new (hence the term, "newbies") to the field of Genetic Genealogy. You do NOT need to be an ISOGG.org member to subscribe to this mailing list.

As a subscriber to the DNA-NEWBIE list, we ask you to adhere to the following guidelines:

1. Please visit the "ISOGG Genetic Genealogy Q&A for Beginners" http://www.isogg.org/ggfaq.htm page & browse this group's "Links" section.

2. Please keep discussion topics & queries relevant to GENETIC GENEALOGY uses of DNA testing. MEDICAL & FORENSIC DNA topics are not applicable for this list. For anthro-genealogy/deep ancestry queries, or detailed test results analysis, we may refer your post to Rootsweb's GENEALOGY-DNA list where many anthro-genealogy experts answer questions about haplogroup origins and SNP results.

3. List moderators may e-mail you a gentle reminder in case of "topic drift" (i.e.: politics, religion, etc.) if subjects do not pertain to our list topic.

4. When replying to messages, please conserve bandwidth by "snipping" <snip> the text out of the message to which you are replying.

5. Rude and/or negative comments are NOT allowed on this list! The rule here is: "If you can't say something nice, don't say it at all."

6. Discussion of products and prices IS ALLOWED for items relevant to genetic genealogy. This does not include ads for computers, computer classes, etc. Anyone posting a product or service that does not relate directly to genetic genealogy will be considered a Spammer and BANNED!

Please address concerns & questions regarding the list to the List Moderators.

Personally I think you have to pretty hard line about it. I've seen a number of forums absolutely swamped and destroyed because this wasn't addressed. People won't and don't torelate rank comercialism, either it be by no longer visting the forum, or by being hardline about it.
