and margarine vs butter...not the most scientific comparison...but it makes sense to me:

I grew up with margarine, and generally preferred the taste (what was I thinking?!); but I have been trying to get canola out of my life, so margarine has to go! So far I cannot find any margarine products without some kind of canola or other Genetically Modified oil as the main ingredient...
I cook with olive oil as much as possible, but we are switching to butter for everything else.

While I'm posting scary stuff...recent studies have found that GM soy may lead to sterility in third generation hamsters fed on a diet of it. So don't go eating a diet of mostly soy (unless maybe you are sure that it is not GM soy), or you may never have grandkids!

Well, all of this basically confirms what I already knew. I had to stop eating butter for awhile due to lactose intolerence but that is quickly fading away. I ate mostly olive oil, with a bit of lactose free margering for those dishes that needed it.

From now on it will be back to butter instead of the margerine, still with olive oil. It tastes better besides.

I have always known marg was pretty disgusting stuff........I do prefer butter........but try to keep even that to a mininum...I was pleased to hear son ask me recently to stop putting marg on his sandwiches.....seems cooking classes are helping him make some healthy choices...
