What's going on with everyone's avatar. A bunch of us have had our avatars bleeped out or deleted. What gives man?

I've been noticing an intermittent problem with imported graphics, including avatars. I thought it might be just my computer acting up again, but apparently there might be a bug in the new phpbb3 or a host problem. This started 2 days ago.

Logan, go over to forum support and ask them about it, or see if anyone has asked about it and join in asking for help, if this continues.

If anyone else has had this problem, please post it here.

One more thing, I noticed that the blank page/disconnect problem seemed to stop about the same time this problem started. Could be a coincidence, but maybe not.

I've had my avatar disappear a few times now, but it's not completely clear what's happening. Yesterday my avatar disappeared for INFP but when I came upstairs to reload it (for the 3rd time) it was there. In the past I've had to upload it again to get it to show up.

My current theory is that this is happening to avatar's that are "uploaded" to the board rather than linked in from photobucket or some other image hosting service. I was thinking that our hosts were deleting the images from time to time, but that may not be true. It could easily be due to the changes they've been making recently. In fact, it wouldn't surprise me if they added a server or two lately, and they may have broken some image links moving things around. Hopefully it will stop happening.

That theory seems entirely plausable. If true, hopefully, the problem will soon pass.

And Reb; you didn't choose your current avatar? Someone is having fun at your expense. Take a look. Laughing Wink

If your avatar is disappearing in some topics and not others Fossy, or is just happening somewhat randomly, the problem could be in your browser's cache. Still, it's been happening so often here it makes me wonder what's going on. I was having massive problems getting my browser (Firefox) to load all the forum graphics for a while, but that turned out to be because Firefox didn't like passing through my proxy. Eliminating my proxy solved it, and now the problem seems limited to avatars.

Ahhh, the mysteries of internet life. crazy

I'm on firefox too. I noticed it more in some topics than others but I wasn't paying strict attention, so it could be just random.

My avatar is an 'uploaded' one, but I've not noticed any problems with it. In either Firefox or Opera.

What I've had trouble with since the change is when writing posts, such as now, with the letters crawling along on the display much slower than I can type. I don't know if it's the forum, since I just transferred 12 gigs of files to an external HD. Might be time to wipe the internal drive and reinstall OS X, which I usually do about once per year.

Reb,

So you didn't change it! I wonder who did? Suspect

You can always change it back now that you know about it.

Gee Reb - I though you put that new avatar up. I know I threatened to change your avatar, but I was only joking. It doesn't seem fair to use my "admin" powers to screw with people like that. Although you did say "go ahead". Guess someone took you up on it. But hey - you may be wearing diapers, but you also get to smoke a cigar and swear like a sailor. geek
