It is possible to sail all the way around the world at 60 degrees S latitude without hitting any land.

The average coal power plant emits 100 times as much radiation as the average nuclear plant.

The easternmost point in the United States is in Alaska.

In Iceland, tipping a waiter or waitress is considered an insult.

When glass breaks, the cracks move faster than 3,000 miles per hour. To photograph the event, a camera must shoot at a millionth of a second.

The only 15 letter word that can be spelled without repeating a letter is "uncopyrightable".

Until 1796, there was a state in the United States called Franklin. Today it's known as Tennessee.

The Earth weighs around 6,600,000,000,000,000,000,000 tons.

One in every 4 Americans has appeared on television.

You're born with 300 bones, but when you get to be an adult, you only have 206.

Human thigh bones are stronger than concrete.

Thomas Edison was afraid of the dark.

More to come later . . .

Interesting, Nucky.

How bizarre....

Good to know. I'm going to Iceland one day! (seriously). I get quite stressed when I'm in America because I'm not used to the tipping thing and I find it hard to work out the amount to give.

One in every 4 Americans has appeared on television.

This does not surprise me at all.

Human thigh bones are stronger than concrete.

No wonder they hurt so much if you break them! (or so I've heard...)

The Hong Kong New World Tower is not in Hong Kong, but in Shanghai. (Anyone know how that came to be?)

Some ribbon worms will eat themselves if they can't find any food.

There are more plastic flamingos in the U.S. than real ones.

Recycling one glass jar saves enough energy to watch T.V. for 3 hours.

Rice paper does not have any rice in it.

Lakes Michigan and Huron are hydrologically the same lake. They have the same surface elevation of 577 feet, and are connected not by a river but by the Straits of Mackinac.

In most states, you can legally get methamphetamine with a prescription (yes, that's METHamphetamine), but not marijuana. Desoxyn (the pharmaceutical brand name for meth) is used as a last resort in treatment-resistant ADD.

Toyota has a higher percentage of SUV models than GM. And we blame the American auto industry's problems on building too many SUV's. Rolling Eyes
